The Scenario

We meet with Mr. Steven Knott, of Boston, in his home. We have each received correspondence asking for us to join him in a meeting about a piece of property. We joined him at his home and as we meet him we notice he has some bruising about his face. He acquired a property for an incredible price without doing due diligence and only realized it after the fact. He discovered it was the old “Corbitt” house and was attacked while he was cleaning it out, only to wake up in a hospital a few hours later. Turns out the family who lived there before, the “Mecarios”(sp?), the husband ended up in the asylum and eventually the wife did as well about two years ago..

Pay is $25 in advance, $25 a day to look into the house and see what we can find out. He took quite a beating and somehow made it outside of the house where someone found him and took him to the hospital. He recommended we start with the Hall of Records as well as the library and the Boston Globe.

Thomas and Jeremiah go to the sanatorium in Arkham, taking Jeremiah’s car. Carmine goes to the Boston Globe. Roscoe goes to the Hall of Records.

Roscoe goes to the Hall of Records and signs in to the Records room to do his own research on the address. After a half day he discovers: In 1835, a prosperous merchant builds the house, but immediately falls ill and sells it to a Mr. Walter Corbitt, esquire. In 1852, Walter Corbitt is sued by neighbours, who petition to force him to leave the area “in consequence of his surious [sic] habits and unauspicious demeanor”.

Thomas and Jeremiah enter the sanatorium and approach a desk manned by a man named Daniel taking notes. He goes to grab his father after we ask to speak to the “Mecarios”. His father walks up and greets us as Dr. Wilson, the director of the sanatorium. He states Mr. “Mecario” was brought to the sanatorium about two years ago after running out of his house nude shouting about burning eyes with self-inflicted wounds. He is unintelligible in speech. His wife later began having the same manifestations as her husband saying there was a presence in the house and was eventually committed with melancholy after neglecting the children while they went to stay with family.

After Thomas and Jeremiah enter Mrs. Gabriella Mecarios room, she repeats, ‘By his own weapon is the devil “wursted”.’ Thomas asks her about the passage and if it was from the Bible and then strikes up a conversation with her. She says there is an evil that lives there that would lean over her bed at night, angry, and would throw things. The evil hated her husband and was felt throughout the house. She said the house was empty when they moved in. She believes what she is saying and is not trying to actively deceive us and is genuinely terrified of the house. Thomas thanks her and she warns him to stay out of that house and we say goodbye.

Carmine finds a gentleman named Mr. Dualie to sell him alcohol from his home. He asks for information and Mr. Dualie doesn’t seem inclined to talk and when Carmine pushes the matter Mr. Dualie pulls a shotgun on him and tells him to leave. Carmine walks away.

Roscoe goes to the local library to look into any additional information but was unable to find any additional information.

Thomas and Jeremiah head to the local police station on the way back where Jeremiah remembers he knows of a Kim D.. who is a clerk at the local court office. They only have information on when Mr. Mecario was picked up, how he was running from the house undressed with self-inflicted wounds on his body yelling about burning eyes.

The group agrees to meet up the following day and discusses what they learned before heading to the house.
